Upon arrival you will be asked to fill in a brief questionnaire.
The Osteopath will then take a detailed clinical history along with past medical history of any relevance.
The Osteopath then performs a clinical examination involving assessment of soft tissue and joint structures with hands on assessment and other orthopaedic and neurological tests as required. The results of these will be explained to you and depending upon these results specific techniques will be applied to improve your condition.
The treatment may include soft tissue massage techniques, stretching or joint manipulations amongst many other techniques which we are trained to perform. Please note patients may be asked to undress (a robe is provided).
Ergonomic, postural advice or exercise prescription may be given if necessary.
Obviously this is dependant on the chronicity and complexity of your condition. The aim of our treatment and management is for you to have the least treatment possible and to empower you to self manage.
In the vast majority of cases no. We do not require mandatory X-rays. Although on the rare occasion they are deemed necessary. If you already have x-rays or scans please bring them along.
Most private health insurance cover with an ‘extras’ component will cover a portion of the treatment, this will vary upon your provider and level of cover. We have HICAPS facilities which you can claim your rebate immediately and only have a ‘gap’ to pay so please bring your card along.
We can truly only discuss what we do as Osteopaths because we do not represent the other professions. We all treat similar conditions however our treatments will be one on one between the osteopath and the patient; we have a strong soft tissue focus not just a bony or vertebral focus; our treatment times are of a considerable length; treatment may be applied to areas quite distant to the areas causing symptoms as Osteopaths understand how different areas are inter-related; we are skilled providers of high quality manual techniques and seldom use electromodalities; Osteopaths use a wide variety of techniques; your management may involve stress reduction techniques, ergomomic and postural advice which can be vital for long term resolution.
